'97-'99 SX Long Travel Kit - Installation Instructions |
|
| 1 | Install the shocks into the suspension as they were removed. |
| WARNING: Make sure nitrogen valves face down (toward suspension arms), if not track or shock damage will occur. | |
| 2 | Remove the stock limiter straps and replace them with the limiters supplied in the kit. Set the limiter straps to the setting shown on the following page. |
| 3 | Remove the bolts from the end of the control rods and replace the standard control rod (lower) 15 millimeter spacers with the 7.5 millimeter spacers supplied in the kit, put red (271) loctite on the bolt and re-install in the control rod. |

Limiter Strap Setting |
||||
|
Standard
limiter setting: 28 millimeters (1 1/8”) |
||||
| By
increasing the standard measurement (shortening the limiter) ski pressure will
be increased. |
||||
| By
reducing the standard measurement (lengthening the limiter) ski pressure will be
decreased. |
||||
| By
shortening the limiter straps center shock travel will be reduced. If you want
to improve handling it is recommended to first try reducing the center shock
spring pre-load. |

Spring Settings |
||||
| Standard
rear spring setting: 339
millimeters (13 3/8”) |
||||
| The
rear shock spring is a 2.5-4.5 kilogram per millimeter rising rate spring. By
shortening the springs installed length 3 millimeters (1/8”) the springs total
force will be increased by 13.5 kilograms or 30 pounds. Lengthening the
installed length will reduce the springs force by the same amount. Shorten or
lengthen installed length as desired. |
||||
| Standard center shock spring setting: 250.5 millimeters (9 7/8”) (spring length is at shock free length, limiter strap setting will affect installed length). | ||||
| The
center shock spring is a 2.8 kilogram per millimeter straight rate spring, by
increasing pre-load ski pressure will be reduced, decreasing pre-load ski
pressure will be increased. Check installed length before making any
adjustments. 3 millimeter (1/8”) pre-load adjustment will change the spring
force 8.4 kilograms (18 pounds). |
